|should I have treatment?
Feb 21, 2005
My friend said he read an article that suggests that anyone having Hep. C can receive interferon. I have been told by my doctor that my enzyme levels are as close to normal as possible, however I would like it to be gone forever! Do you know anything about this? Thanks

For any patient with hepatitis C I would recommend the folowing: 1. Testing for hepatitis RNA. If present, then there is a risk for chronic liver disease, even if liver function tests are normal. 2. A baseline liver biopsy is appropriate, regardless of results of liver tests, in a patient with HCV viremia (HCV RNA). If the biopsy shows minimal or no disease then a follow-up in 5 years is appropriate. If there is more disease, then treatment should be considered.
