Is Hepa B curable?
Dec 19, 2004

I was tested positive for Hepa-B, Is it curable and how it works? How can this be cured?

Thank you

Rockmine

Response from Dr. McGovern

Hepatitis B is curable but in most people, treatment will only suppress the virus.

However, better treatments are emerging for hepatitis B. Seroconversion (changing hepatitis B e antigen from positive to negative) is a very important marker. Peginterferon alfa 2a is emerging as an important therapy which accomplishes this more often than other medications which are now available.

New drugs will be available most likely next year including a medication named entecavir which is also very promising.
