| HCV: coinfection w/HIV and HBV Dec 13, 2004 I have found data on the co-infection rate for HCV and HBV among HIV-positive patients, but no information about the prevalence of HBV and HIV among anti-HCV positive patients. What is the latest information on co-infection, starting with an anti-HCV positive population? Thanks very much, in advance. |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
Good question. About 30-40% of the approximately 1 million people with HIV have HCV. About 10% of the HIV poplulation has HBV. There is a small overlap of about 3-5% who have all three. These are at especially high risk of liver failure and need rapid and effective treatment of all three viruses. Why do you ask? DTD | |||||||||
