| hpv/cmv co-infection Dec 13, 2004 Have you any experience with hpv-16/cmv co-infected patients? I'm suffering from a wasting syndrome, plus swollen lymphs and inflammation of my throat. I had an acute CMV infection last year, which was compounded by an HPV-16 infection the year before. Everyone I've subsequently slept with unprotected has developed the same wasting syndrome, along with a whole host of other problems, ranging from non-hodgkin's lymphoma, to cervical cancer. I did find some medical literature which discussed the carcinogenic or cocarcinogenic properties of CMV in the setting of an HPV infection. But I didn't find a whole lot. And I was hoping this was something you've seen before or heard of. |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
I have not seen anything about the interaction of these viruses. However, both are known to cause chronic long term problems including cancers of lymphoid origin. This certainly reinforces the need for protected sex! I hope your message does not go unheeded! Good luck and get well! DTD | |||||||||
