|Why all Hep B Abs + for 15 years?
Nov 15, 2004
Dear Dr Dieterich, I had found Hep B core-Ab +, Hep B surface-Ab +, Hep B e-Ab + for about 12 years, but have never found Hep B surface-Ag +. Last year, I had Hep B DNA test (negative). My doctor asked me not to concern about my liver. However, I have ALT abnormal up to 57 twice in 2003 and this year with nucomfortable in right abdomen. I am 39 years old and do not drink alcohl at all. I am very upset about my liver and worried to get damaged liver or even liver cancer or liver failure in future. Do you think it's possible for my siutiation? Why the three Hep B Ab keep + for 15 years not to turn negative? Should I take some medications to protect my liver? Please answer my questions as I am becoming so anxious about my new test- ALT 46. Thank you very much.

It really sounds like HBV is not your problem. Something else may be. I would ask your MD about other virues, fatty liver, diabetes etc. There are many causes of elevated liver enzymes and you should probably have more tests. Good luck. Hepatitis B antibodies should be there for life. Stay well! DTD
