chronic HepB
Oct 25, 2004

I have chronic HepB with HBV DNA at 15,500 copies/ml by PCR,normal enzymes level and liver viopsy went well, as no fibrosis or inflamation noticed.

Shall I go for therapy or just continue monitor my situation on a 6-month basis?

What is the threshold for starting therapy and when do I have to make again viopsy?

Thank you for the prompt answer

Response from Dr. Dieterich

Good question. It depends on a lot of factors. You should certinly check everything every 6 months to make sure that the HBV DNA does not rise. Most treatment algorithms don't suggest treatment until you reach 50,000 to 100,000 copies, but those are arbitrary numbers of course. If you have a family history of liver cancer, then I would suggest that even this low level of HBV DNA be suppressed. Good luck! DTD
