|can we trust what u say
Oct 22, 2004
I had previously asked if I should trust my doctor who before starting the copeg treatment told me it was for
24 weeks than 2 weeks after starting told me it should be
for 48 weeks, even after being undetectable after 16 weeks. I also said I know that people make a lot of money on us,(I am also coinfected) with all these meds, than I realize you to
are making money on advertising drugs. I saw in anothers answer that you say
48 weeks. even though somewhere not long ago I read
in a medical study that people
like myself HIV with gen 2 only require 24 weeks. Can you
please explain why?
Response from Dr. McGovern
There are three large studies done to date which have all used 48 weeks of treatment for coinfected patients.
In one small study using PegIntron, patients with genotype 3 were treated for only 6 months. The relapse rate in this study was very high so the authors concluded that 6 months of treatment was insufficient.
Once better therapies such as protease inhibitors are developed - which attack the virus in a specific instead of a general way - hopefully we will be able to treat for a shorter period of time.
Should I trust my dr.
