CONTRACTION PROBABILITY Sep 29, 2004 My wife works in a hospital and was recenty pricked w/ a needle that may or may not have been used on a patient w/ HCV. If she was pricked with a needle that was used during a tissue biopsy, what is the probability that she could contract HCV? And, what is the life of a HCV cell from a piece of liver tissue that's been removed for a biopsy? Thank you for your time. |

 If your wife works in a hospital, she should report her needlestick injury to her employee health unit. Every hospital has an employee health area where people can be evaluated for potential risks. Patients have baseline blood tests to be certain they do not have any blood-borne diseases. Then they are offered counseling and further testing and sometimes other interventions.
