risk of children?
Sep 29, 2004

My children are always touching things they shouldn't.... especially in a bathroom or around trashcans, etc. How are we able to completely protect our children against these types of viruses when we don't exactly know what our children are touching, etc. I just worry that my kids could have in many situations touched things that may have blood on them and with kids they seem to always have some sort of knick or scratch on them. Please give me any advice possible on this. I can't go test my child every time they touch a questionable surface..... but deep down I really want to. If by chance they did touch a contaminated surface... would the blood need to be wet and what would the risk of transmission be? HELP!

Response from Dr. McGovern

We have all been children at one point touching things we shouldn't touch. Please be reassured that transmission of a viral illness through touching a contaminated surface would be highly unlikely. Dr. McGovern
