If a person has Hepatitics C and I was around them, not sex, just being with the person,do I need to see a doctor or do I need a blood test?Is it contagious?
| Response from Dr. McGovern
Hepatitis C is spread through contact with blood. The following people should be tested for hepatitis C: Persons who have ever injected illegal drugs -even once. Persons who were treated for clotting problems with a blood product made before 1987 Persons who received a blood transfusion before July 1992 Dialysis patients Persons who have abnormal liver enzyme tests Healthcare workers after needlestick exposures Children born to hepatitis C positive women Although rarely transmitted sexually, persons whose partner is hepatitis C positive should have baseline testing.
