Are swollen neck glands directly associated with hiv or hep. I had an exposure-unprotected sex 8 months ago, I have tested negative but the glands in my neck have been very large ever since. They have not gone down in 8 months and my doctor doesnt know why. I have read that this is a sign of hiv. What is your advice, would they be swollen this long with no positive test?

If you had a significant exposure, I would be testing for HIV antibody up until 6 months later. Hepatitis viruses usually don't cause significant changes in lymph node size. You can also be tested for other causes for big lymph nodes such as cat scratch disease, toxoplasmosis, etc. Finally, a lymph node biopsy may be considered if the size of the lymph nodes are cause for concern. This can be discussed with your physician.
