Very Concerned About My Son...Please Answer Jul 14, 2004 My 13 year old son went swimming at a friend's new pool today. The pool has just been installed and does not yet have chemicals or chlorine. I just found out that the friend's father was recently visiting and swimming in the pool. I'm very concerned as I know the father has HEP C and has been a long time IV drug user. If my son had an open cut, could he have been in danger of getting this virus?? I'm even concerned about his wet clothing which he, of course, dropped on the floor in our hallway without my knowing. My other kids stepped on it, etc. Is this silly? I'm so concerned about my son. Thank you for your help. |

 I would not at all be concerned about this. People get hepatitis C mainly from sharing needles due to blood exposure. There is absolutely no cause for concern regarding the exposure you describe. Dr. McGovern | ||||||||
