needlestick Jun 17, 2004 Dear Doctor: Thanks for your expertise and help. In the event of simultaneously acquired co-infection with HIV and Hep C, it has been established that seroconversion might be delayed due to acute co-infection immunoincompetence. Is it known when detectable HIV and Hep C viremia might present if delayed seroconversion is suspected? Would viremia only become detectable immediately prior to the delayed seroconversion, or would viremia be detectable and only the antibodies take longer to develop? Thanks... |

 You ask an interesting question but I am afraid I cannot answer it because there is so little data on this issue. I would suspect that there may be an interaction or something called "viral interference" which could possibly affect the presentation of the other virus, but it would just be speculation on my part.
