Response from Dr. McGovern
The good news is that you have no detectable hepatitis B surface antigen. That means you do not have chronic hepatitis B. Surface antibody is protective antibody. It is positive in two different settings: 1. If your surface antibody is positive and your core antibody is negative, then you were probably vaccinated against hepatitis B in the past. 2. If your surface antibody is positive and your core antibody is positive, then you were exposed to hepatitis B in the past, but you then cleared the infection. Dr. McGovern | |||||||||
