| HCV 28 YRS. PCR 10FOLD IN 4YRS. May 12, 2004 I was diagnosed in 1976, Genotype 1a Viral load in 2000 was 900,000, biopsy 0-0. Recent testing showed viral load at 9,500,000. My doctor gave me three options. 1. treatment 2, biopsy 3. testing every 6-12 months 10 fold increase is alarming, and curious, since I drank for 25 years, now I get a large increase since than. Please give your opinion. Thank you Robert Radford Fresno, CA |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
I don't think there is an option. I think you need a biopsy. I have always been surprised by the biopsies in former drinkers. They are usually worse than I expect. the viral load does not really mean a thing. Go get a biopsy and then get treated. Good luck! DTD | |||||||||
