| Can you contract Hep C from a straw???? Mar 17, 2004 About two weeks ago I did some coke and used the same straw with a person exposed with hepatitis C. I would like to get tested ASAP should I wait 4 more weeks? Would you consider this a high risk contact especially, if I was bleeding from inside the nose? Does the person exposed have to be bleeding from the nose also? Thank you for your attention in this matter. |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
Oh, that kind of straw! Yes you can! That is a risk that many people don't appreciate. There may be enough blood on the straw to transmit HCV. 2 weeks is too early to test but 6 weeks is a good idea. If you really want to know, ask for a HCV RNA level. Next time use a condom! DTD | |||||||||
