Hepatitis and central obesity
Jan 7, 2004
Dear Dr. Dieterich,
Can Hepatitis result in central obesity?
Many thanks and a happy new year.
Response from Dr. Dieterich
Not quite, however that brings up an interesting point. Central obesity is related to fat in the liver which is also caused by HCV. Getting rid of the fat in the liver is important in improving the biopsy and the prognosis of the HCV and its treatment. So the answer is really no, but it is important if you have central obesity to get an insulin level which can be treated and help to get the fat off your waistline and out of your liver! DTD
