Response from Dr. Dieterich
Lamivudine(Epivir) is category B that is relatively safe in pregnancy. It has been used in HIV patients for many years who have gotten pregnant and most clinicians think that it is reasonably safe. It will also reduce the transmission risks to the baby. You must notify the pediatrician however and make sure the baby gets immunoglobulin and HBV vaccine right after birth. Make sure your obstetrician knows as well and that someone is monitoring your HBV during pregnancy and beyond. Good luck! DTD | |||||||||
