| indirectly affected Dec 8, 2003 My husbands best friend since childhood has recently tested Hep B positive. All of our other friends are treating him like a leper, and are worried for their own health, I'm trying to let him know we care, but I'm scared too, for both my husband and myself. We both are in the process of the vaccine but until then how do I sterilize my home and how scared should I be? He visits often and occasionlly sleeps over. My husband never asks his friend questions about cleanliness, I want to be there for him as a friend without sacrificing mine, or my husband health. What can I do? |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
HBV is only transmitted by blood or sex. So if you don't share razors or toothbrushes with him or have sex with him without a condom, they you are all OK! You don't have to sterilize your house. HBV is not transmitted like a cold! Stay well and don't treat him like a leper! DTD | |||||||||
