| Staying Healthy..Please answer! Sep 15, 2003 Hi Dr. D, Just wondering if you can tell me if there are many cases of "accidental" contract of Hepatitis C. If someone who had the disease had an open cut and got blood on a door for example, and then I was to touch it with an open cut, would it be possible to contract HEP C? This concerns me, because although I live a very safe lifestyle, I come into contact with people who don't. I often imagine all the incidents that could happen that I don't even KNOW about (ie: someone having a cut, etc.). I appreciate your advice. |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
HCV is not very transmissable at all. It has to be real blood to blood contact like a needle stick for instance. Even in a needle stick, though the chances are still slim. Wash your hands and forget about that risk, it is astronomically low! DTD | |||||||||
