Reading Hepatitis test results
Aug 18, 2003

When I donated blood, Red cross gave me back the test result like this: Hep B Sur Antigen Manufacturer #1 Neg Hep B Sur Antigen Manuf #2 -- Antibodies to Hep B Antigen (nati-HBc, IgG and IgM) Pos Antibodies to Hep C (Anti-HCV, EIA) Neg I was told I had infection with Hep B in the past. My wife blood test results Hep A IgG POS Hep A IgM NEG Hep B Sur Ag NEG Hep B Sur Ab POS Hep B Core Ab NEG Anti-Hep C Ab NEG My questions: 1) Can you explain the results in more simple way so that regular people can understand their health status? 2)am I Hep. B carrier or am I cured? 3) Is my wife infectious? 4) What we should do? Should we get three Hep. B immunization shots? Please advise Thank you very much for your time and knowledge sharing.

Response from Dr. Dieterich

Looks like you had HBV and are cured. Looks like your wife had the HBV vaccine! You are both fine! Stay well! DTD
