| dynamics--needlestuck Jun 30, 2003 What are the acute infection dynamics of these viruses if simultaneously acquired? PCR marker positivity time frame? Antibody positivity time frame? Does Hep develop/replicate more quickly than HIV, or is it known? Do the interactions between the two inhibit viremia presentation in serum? Needlestuck |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
There is no relation between HIV viremia and HCV viremia, they do not interfere with each other acutely, they replicate in different cells. HCV and HIV PCR are usually positive in 2-3 weeks. Would do qualitative PCR though for both so that false positives don't confuse you. Antibodies usually appear in about 90 days although rarely can take 180 days. If you have acute HCV treatment is almost always successful. Good luck! DTD | |||||||||
