| What is the difference between Pegsys and Peg Intron May 29, 2003 Hi Doctor Dieterich: Is it true that Pegintron and Pegsys are the same! I was told by my doctor that they are exactly the same except one is made in the US and one made in Swiss. Are there any difference? Thank you sir for your time. |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
They are pretty close. Pegasys has a longer half life of about 75 hours, versus 54 hours for Peg Intron. Pegasys is excreted mostly in the liver while Peg Intron mostly in the kidney. The overall success rates for the two are almost exactly the same with some nuances. Pegasys is given in a fixed dose while Peg Intron is given in doses adjusted for weight. The side effects are basically the same too although many patients think that the Pegasys side effects start slower, but get to the same place eventually. Overall your doctor is correct, there are differences, but the main one in efficacy is not really significant. Good luck! DTD | |||||||||
