| Nanny with Hepititis B May 20, 2003 Hi, HELP! Just found out the live-in nanny for our 1 year old has Hepititis B. She came from an agency and we were provided a medical report prior to hireing her. The medical report stated that she has no medical issues besides the fact that she was allergic to Penacillin (nothing about hepitits!). 1) What are the risks to our family and 2) Is this something that should be disclosed with the medical report we were given? My husband and I do not have the vaccine the baby does. |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
Hepatitis B is transmitted by blood and sex. If you are not being exposed to either from your nanny, you should be fine. It is not easily transmitted, but you should be sure to tell her to clean up after herself should she get cut and bleed. You may also want to get the vaccine so then you would have nothing to worry about! DTD | |||||||||
