Hep C from a towel after a cut?
Feb 3, 2003

My friend who has hepatitis C got a small cut on her arm. She wiped the blood off with her hands, and then put a band aid on. A few minutes later, my niece fell and cut herself. My friend grabbed a towel to put on the cut. Could the hepatitic C be transmitted from the blood on her hand, which was not much, and not fresh, to the towel, to a cut on someone else?

Response from Dr. Dieterich

Nothing is impossible, but that is a very low risk exposure. Dried blood would not be a real risk. If your daughter becomes ill and the chances are very remote remind her pediatrician about the exposure so they can check. Good luck and don't worry! DTD
