| hepc/anemia Jan 21, 2003 Have had hep c 28yrs.Blood tests show I'm not storing iron. Can I take iron supps.Where is my iron going?Had hysterectomy at 24 am now 51.My doctor wants to give me iron shots! Thanks if you can help. JJ. B.C Canada |

Hepatitis C does not cause anemia usually. However the treatment for it with ribavirin does. That can easily be treated with Procrit. If you are not taking treatment then your MD needs to make sure you are not losing iron from your stomach or colon before supplementing your iron levels. That is usually done with colonoscopy and endoscopy. You should have a colonoscopy anyway since you are over 50. Good luck! DTD | |||||||||
