Worried Friend
Mar 4, 2001

I have a close friend whom I've known for 10 yrs.She lost her daughter a year ago and has been very depressed since. She has no selfesteem. She has had over 30 differnt sexual partners in 8 yrs.Her doctor called her and told her he wanted her to get blood work done and an ultrasound on her liver, she wont go into detail on anything else. Can you tell me what reasons she would need this?I care for her but i cant keep supporting her in her bad choices.Thank you for your time!

Response from Dr. Rodriguez-Torres

Maybe your friend has abnormalities in the blood tests and or physical examination that suggests an hepatitis or any other disease of the liver. The behavior you described suggest that she might have been at risk of HIV infection or Hep.B (sexually transmitted). The blood tests can give a definite diagnosis of these diseases.
