Protein Restrictions for Hep C?
Mar 4, 2001

I read in a medical book that too much protein causes anemia in the blood.Diet should be less protein and more carbohydrate, fruit vegetable.Yet our nutritionalist informed us this week that this is all untrue to eat as much protein as possible, it will help with the ascites. True or false? Very Confused!

Response from Dr. Rodriguez-Torres

If you have chronic liver disease with low albumin in the blood and ascites you should restrict your sodium intake.Protein intake can help you to increase the serum albumin but can give an additional burden to your liver. You should take just what you need and not exaggerate.

False negative? Wasting,rashes,night sweats
side effects of interferon
