| Hep-C non-responder options Jul 22, 2002 Hi, do you think interferon mono or combo (w/Ribavirin) maintenance is a viable option for genotype 1a non-responders? My virus count was down to 4-digits while on treatment and my liver tests were almost normal. Now since I stopped all treatment, my enzymes and virus count have all skyrocketed. thanx...Mike |

Response from Dr. Fried
Maintenance therapy can be considered for those who have evidence of aggressive disease on liver biopsy, such as stage 3 or 4 fibrosis (cirrhosis). BUT, it must be remembered that there are no data that has proven that maintenance therapy will prevent long-term complications of HCV. Also, when should maintenance therapy be stopped? These questions are being addressed in current studies but the answers won't be available for a number of years. Maintenance therapy should be used very selectively, if at all. | |||||||||
