Response from Dr. Fried
Alcohol can have a negative impact on HBV prognosis. How much alcohol is safe is not known, therefore, general recommendations are to minimize intake. HBV carriers can spontaneously clear their HBV but they can also reactivate and develop more active liver disease. Most of these changes are asymptomatic so you would not know except through blood tests. Carriers of HBV should see their helahtcare professional and get blood tests every 6 months or so to monitor for any changes that might necessitate additional work-up or treatment. | |||||||||
