| booster needed after 10 years May 17, 2002 I am a health care worker and had the hepatitis series over 10 years ago. I never have been tested for immunity. Should i get a booster, a booster and then a titer test or just a titer test? |

Response from Dr. Fried
Helathcare workers should be tested after their vaccine series to demonstrate immunity. If they develop documented immunity, subsequent testing or booster vaccines are not routinely recommended. Since you do not know if you ever developed immunity from the vaccine series (most people do, fortunately), check anti-HBs antibody. If this is positive, then you did develop immunity and further vaccination would not be required. Check with your physician to verify the results of all your tests in your particular situation. | |||||||||
