 If a person is positive for hepatitis B surface antigen, HBV DNA will almost always be detectable if a sensitive PCR assay is used. The level of HBV DNA is related to the degree of infectivity and the degree of disease activity. HCV RNA will be detectable in a patient who recently bcame infected with HCV, prior to anti-HCV seroconversion. If they remain chronically infected, HCV RNA will always be detectable in the blood by a sensitive assay. | ||||||||
