need help ASAP!!!!!!
Mar 14, 2002

Monday the 11th I found out I have hep c. the doctor told me nothing. My levels were high ALT {SGPT} 448, ALP{APK.P"TASE},138 LD(LDH)286,AST(SGOT)271. How serious are these levels? They are 6 months old

Response from Dr. Fried

The eleveated ALT and AST indicate that you have hepatitis or inflammation of the liver. The levels of these enzymes do not correlate very well with the stage of hepatitis C or the prognosis. Your doctor should fully evaluate you, possibly including liver biopsy, and make a decision with you about your suitability for treatment.
