|More information needed on Hep B virus

Thankyou for your prompt reply. Here is some more information regards my maid which i had written to you about yesterday. The ELISA test was done for the HBsAg and the result was positive. Our whole family took the complete immunisation course 2 years ago and yesterday we all took a booster shot. Is there any test in which we can find out when she could have contracted the Hep B virus as she could have passed it onto us before we were immunised???? Should we take the anti-HBs test to check for antibodies as she lives with us??? Is there any medication that she should take that can rid her of the virus as she will also be undergoing treatment for her recent cancer (mastectomy) ?? Will it take a toll on her liver?? Thankyou and waiting for your reply.

The HBsAg positive indicates that your maid has hepatitis B. If your family received the HBV vaccine series, then they have protective immunity. Although not recommended, your anxiety is such that testing family members for anti-HBs will demonstrate their immunity. No other precautions are necessary. Your maid should see her healthcare professional to discuss treatment (if necessary) for HBV, particularly if she is undergoing cancer chemotherapy.
