| HIV/HCV+ REBETRON FAILURE AND HEMOCHROMOTISIS? Feb 7, 2001 I RECENTLY FAILED REBETRON AFTER TRYING FOR 8 MONTHS. ALTHOUGH I'M NOT SURE IF I HAVE ACTUAL HEMOCHROMOTOSIS, I DID HAVE IRON OVERLOAD. LONG BEFORE TREATMENT BEGAN, I HAD PHLEBOTOMIES AND GOT MY #'S DOWN FROM 1200 TO ABOUT 300. IT IS MY UNDERSTANDING THAT THIS IS STILL HIGH AND THAT IT INTERFERES WITH REBETRON DOING ITS JOB. I WANT TO TRY PEG BUT I DON'T WANT TO WASTE THE TREATMENT IF I NEED LOWER IRON/TRANSFERRITON. I COULD REALLY USE YOUR ADVICE/OPINION. THANKS CINDY |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
Dear Cindy, I would not worry so much about the ferritin. It probably does not relate to response and it is too low for hemochromatosis. Go for the peg! DTD | |||||||||
