Mixed Labs - Please help Feb 13, 2002 Please help me. I have a confusing set of lab results that I hope you can help me with. The results are as follows: two months ago HCV Anti + 5 days later HCV Anti - HCV PCR QUAN Not Detected HCV PCR QUAL Pos Last Week HCV Anti negative RIBA negative Liver Enzymes normal HCV PCR QUAN Not Detected HCV PCR Qual Negative Cryo Not Detected HIV Anti Neg HIV PCR RNA Neg I have seen a hepatologist who indicates that last week's results are 100 conclusive and that I do not have the virus. He feels strongly that additional testing is not necessary. I, of course, remain panicked with those first results. Do you agree that these results are conclusive? I hope you do. |

Response from Dr. Fried
RIBA negative suggests that the first anti-HCV test was a false-positive. This is supported by the normal ALT, and more importantly the negative quantitative and qualitative PCR tests when you had follow-up labs done. By these tests, you do not have HCV. |
