| Where to get DNA PCR test for Hepatitis B? Nov 13, 2000 Dear Dr. Dieterich: In one of your previous answers you mentioned a DNA PCR test for Hepatitis B that would be positive about 10 days after exposure. I had a possible exposure to Hepatitis B about three weeks ago and I am very worried. Do you know where I can get this test? Also, how long would I have to wait after exposure before the results of a garden variety Hepatitis B "panel" would be 90 to 95 percent accurate? Thanks in advance. |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
Any commercial lab can do it for you. If it has been three weeks it would probably be positive by now. Ask your MD. The average incubation of hep B is about 6-8 weeks, but it can rarely last as long as 6 months. DTD | |||||||||
