| Hemophilia, AIDS and Hepatitis C Nov 13, 2000 My cousin is a hemophiliac and contracted HIV when he was a baby. On Friday he found out that he has Hepatitis C as well. He has been very ill the last few weeks and is experiencing Jaundice, nausea, abdominal pain, fatigue etc. What is the typical survival rate for persons who have this symptomology? |

Response from Dr. Dieterich
Survival is always a very difficult thing to predict for doctors. However, the statistics in general say that 5 year survival for decompensated cirrhotics is less than 5 years. With HIV it would be even shorter. He sounds like he needs treatment for his HCV ASAP. Wish him luck! DTD | |||||||||
