hiv+, don't know about hcv yet
Jan 22, 2002

I was recently dx hiv+, hep a & b negative, but no mention of hcv. On a recent cbc myAST was 151 (normal 0-45, ALT 140 (n 0-50) LDH normal, GGT 119 (n 2-45)--this is prior to starting hiv tx. Is this something to be concerned about? I can't ask my doctor today since it's a holiday, don't have another appointment scheduled until early next month. Thanks.

Response from Dr. Fried

The elevated liver enzymes indicate that you have ongoing irritation to the liver, ie hepatitis. Your healthcare provider will likely repeat the lab tests to monitor. If they remain elevated, then a full evaluation is warranted, beginning with HCV antibody testing.
