Liver Test

Hi Dr.
I got tested and I came up with Negative(Hep B core, Igm)and Positive (Hep B surface Ag). What does this mean?also the virus in undetectable now but 10 month ago was 652000.
In addition i'm now under the treatment (Pegasys 180 ml)should I stop this medication or continue taking it. I've been taking this medication since the January 02, 2009
please advice me.

Response from Dr. McGovern
Pegasys is a potent therapy for HBV in the right person. Usually that means someone who doesn't have terribly high HBV levels (like you) with abnormal liver function tests (LFTs) at baseline (a good predictor of response). You will need to continue therapy for about 48 weeks total.
You will also want to discuss the risk of relapse, which will depend on whether you started off with eAg negative or eAg positive disease. If you started off with eAg positive infection, it is important to know if you have lost that marker (which would be great). Ask your doctor and best of luck!!!
