Have a Question About Fusion Inhibitors?

sore throat worried sick

Posted: Nov 6, 2006

Question:

Hi doc

On August 20 I had sex without a condom (a good long 30 minutes). I knew the woman I had sex with for about over 1 year. She is divorced and has an eight year old daughter. At the time I had sex with I did thing nothing is wrong with her and today also I still dont but a day later I started having thoughts haunting what if she was infected. I called her a asked her what is her HIV status and she told me she okay I should not worry.

I did worry on October 6 (more that six weeks after encounter) I went to my doctor and he recommended I take a HIV PCR qualitative test. It came back negative. My doc told me there is not need for another test so I should not worry. October 14 I had sex with the same woman this time I told her we use a condom until she will get tested (just for my sake to be sure if we are going to start a relationship). We did and the condom broke.

October 23 I started feeling that I was getting sick (flu) but my 2 yr old son was coughing also. 2 days later I started coughing not a dry cough (regular with mucus and all) I took and cough syrup then the cough went down and my son was also taking one. The following week on Nov 2 I started feeling a sore throat on my left side did not have any fever.I went to the doctor and he gave me antibiotics and Nov 4 it was gone and he told me that I might have got the sickness from my son because he is still coughing

How possible is it for me to get infected on this situation? (If the woman I had sex with was infected) She told me she will go for a test but she has not done it. Her reason is that she has a lot of work (manager at the hotel) Am I being paranoid about my coughing and sore throat? Is possible that I did not get infected the first time (without a condom) and did get infected the second time (with a Condon that broke)? Is my negative test proves that she is not infected?

I am waiting for another six weeks to get tested and this time I am scared. Till she gets tested there is nothing btwn me and her going on.

Your answers and your advice is well appreciated

Thanks in advance

Hi, It is important to practice safe sex in this society. You must use condoms appropriately and know your partner's status these days. Risky sex is unsafe and can cause a lot of undue emotional stress.

It is unlikely you have been infected with the HIV virus given your circumstances. You should encourage your partner to get checked and you should continue to follow up with your practitioner. I have attached a link for you to read about safe sex practices. Take care Carol http://www.thebody.com/safesex/programs.html
