THIS IS NOT A QUESTION, BUT UPON READING SOME OF THE QUESTIONS, I THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE THIS. I DID HAVE THROMBOCYTOPENIA, PLATELETS GOT TOO A LOW OF 30,000. DR JOSEPH BECK WHOM I SAW IN LITTLE ROCK, AR, CHECKED MY CMV TITRE. I HAD A FLEX SIGMOID AND I WAS FOUND TO HAVE CMV COLITIS. I WAS STARTED ON ORAL GANCICLOVIR (CYTOVENE) 1 GM TID FOR TWO MONTHS. MY PLATELET LEVEL BEGAN TO RETURN TO NORMAL AFTER A FEW WEEKS UPON STARTING CYTOVENE, AT LAST CHECK MY PLATELETS WERE 202,000. NOT SURE IF THE PLATELETS WERE RELATED TO CMV, BUT HEY, THE TITRE CAME DOWN, AND THE PLATELETS WENT UP !
Response from Dr. Frascino
We'll never argue with success. Platelet counts can fall for a wide variety of reasons. I would certainly continue to check your count periodically.
