| RE: should i stop taking ecstasy? Jan 24, 2006 Dear Dr. Bob Thanks for your reply about club drugs and HIV. I agree with everything that you wrote. In addition I would add that there have been multiple studies looking at the effect of ecstasy on immune cells (though in animals and in "test tubes" - yes, it would be unethical to do this in people). The studies all point to the same conclusion - immune function is impaired in various ways by ecstasy. Does this necessarily translate to the same effect in humans? That's a hard call. But if I were lucky enough to have an immune system that didn't need meds now, I wouldn't do things that would risk losing that lucky gift. Steven XXXX( M.D.) New York, NY |
