|How Risky is Bath House
May 24, 2005
I am new to the gay world and want to visit a bath house but always heard bath houses are a high risk place to get HIV. I would like to know if one can get infected with HIV just from being in a bath house, say by just accidentally getting into contact with semen on benches floors etc even without having sex.
Response from Dr. Frascino
Places, be they bathhouses, airplanes or rectories (gosh, that even sounds dirty), are not intrinsically risky. Actions, such as unprotected sex, are!
To specifically answer your question, no, you cannot get infected with HIV just form being in a bathhouse. Just remember all your safer sex guidelines and you should have no worries about accidental contact on benches of floors with either semen or "seamen" (as in sexy sailors).
Stay safe. Stay well.
