Androgel Application
Feb 2, 2004

Dear Dr. Bob, I have been using Androgel (great stuff!) for about 6 months now and my shoulders and abs get somewhat red after application. I am wondering if I can give them a break occasionally and apply the androgel on my thighs or buttocks?

Response from Dr. Frascino

AndroGel should be applied once daily (preferably in the morning) to clean, dry, intact skin. Non-hairy areas are best. If your shoulders and abdomen need a break, try your upper arms. AndroGel can cause dry skin at the application site. Try using a moisturizer on those areas. The upper thighs and buttocks can be used, but the absorption rates might be different, as the clinical trials were all done using upper arms, shoulders, and abdomen. You might also try alternating your left and right sides. Using this rotation technique, you could give the other sites several days off before the next application.
