| Simple Yes Or No Question Nov 28, 2002 I was wondering if I could ask a simple yes or no question. Do you think it is possible for someone to have all of the following symptoms and still be HIV negative? Symptoms: Diarrhea (have had for many years) Eczema (atopic dermatitis) HPV (genital warts) Folliculitis (minor) Muscle and joint pain Fatigue (not anemic). Generalized itching Very Dry Mouth I would really appreciate a quick answer. Can someone have all these symptoms and still be HIV negative? Me doctor things these symptoms are due to stress and anxiety. He tells me HIV testing is not necessary. |

Response from Dr. Frascino
You asked for a quick answer and that's what I'll give. Simply Yes, it's not only possible it's likely! In fact, the vast majority of folks with those exact symptoms would be HIV-negative. Stop trying to use symptoms to diagnose HIV! HIV testing would be warranted if you've had significant risk exposures; otherwise, I'd agree with your doctor that most of your symptoms could well be due to stress and anxiety. Stay well. Dr. Bob |
