Response from Dr. Frascino
Hello, Universally competent!?! Wow, now there's a compliment!!! Unfortunately, the answer isn't so straightforward. Different hospitals in different states and countries follow different guidelines and may have different policies and procedures in place, some of which have changed over the years. The best thing to do is anonymously call the hospital in question and ask them if HIV screening is routinely done before major surgical procedures. They'll be happy to let you know. You don't have to give your name. Dr. Bob |
