New Allergans voluma for facial wasting
Jan 11, 2014
Any news on Allergans new Voluma product for facial wasting? It is injected deep onto the cheek bone. Wondering if this would work better and last longer than Radiese or Sculptra.
Response from Dr. Pierone
This product is similar to Juvederm in that it is a cross-linked hyaluronic acid product. It contains a combination of high and low molecular weight hyaluronic acids and was designed to be a thicker product intended for a deeper level of injection. It also lasts longer than Juvederm, but to my knowledge has not been studied head to head with Radiesse.
In the pivotal study that led to FDA approval of the product, some patients had improvement of facial volume at 2 years follow-up, but there was a drop off in response rates after 6 months.
Based on what we know about Sculptra and Radiesse it looks like this product probably lasts about as long as Radiesse, but not as long as Sculptra.
