Response from Dr. Henry

That is a tough question to answer. Fat loss (lipoatrophy) has been relatively mild in patients taking Truvada (tenofovir/FTC) and Aluvia (Kaletra). Fat gain in abdominal area can be seen but that is hihgly variable. If you previously were on AZT or D4T and lost fat then the fat loss may stabilize or slowly reverse with your new regimen though if fat loss was severe fat gain is often minimal. Lipodystrophy can involve fat loss, fat gain, or a mixed picture so the outcome is highly variable depending on prior treatment, current clinical status, genetic factors, and due to our still incomplete knowledge about the problem/process.
