| Why wont he give me PEP May 18, 2007 I went clubbing on Saturday and I met this guy and we hooked up. By hooking up, I mean we spent like 2 hours making out and fondling each other. NO oral or anal sex. Anyway, we were drunk and he told me that he had thrown up a little bit earlier. As the nite progressed, he aslo told me he was HIV +. Needless to say that I freaked, but he didnt seem concerned. Anyway I went to the hospital and refused me PEP? Why wont they give me PEP if I have had significant exposure. What r ur thoughts? |

Response from Dr. Remien
I think that the clinicians involved with the assessment of risk and whether PEP is appropriate are the best judges on this matter. Your brief description to me does seem to indicate very minimal risk (if any), not indicating the use of PEP. This is not a treatment that should be used lightly or often. |
